Of course, there are many other communities on Vancouver Island that are popular with travelers, including Parksville and the much-loved towns of Tofino and Ucluelet. For those who like to be near the city for convenience, but prefer more rural settings, try communities like Sooke, just outside of Victoria.
In the same region are the Gulf Islands and the Discovery Islands. These are groups of smaller islands, loved for their quieter, forested settings. There you'll find more unique accommodations like cottages, vacation rentals or holiday homes, and bed & breakfasts, and the occasional resort. The largest and best-known of these islands is Salt Spring, but the smaller islands like Gabriola also have ample charm of their own.
Vacationers should familiarize themselves with BC Ferries and their pet policies. Allow your pet to take a bathroom break before boarding the ferry. The ferries can get very busy, particularly during holidays, so if you can book a reservation, you may want to do so. It'll help to avoid extra long waits for you and your pet if sailings are sold out.
