The Comfort Inn lives up to its name... the room was clean,
very comfortable, and quiet.

The Comfort Inn Winnipeg South is easy to find; it's located
just off the Highway 100 Bypass on Route 42 North. That means it's
easy to get back to on the TransCanada to continue your journey,
and you won't have to drive through the City of Winnipeg to get
to the hotel.
We were happy to find our dogs warmly welcomed. Many
hotels provide smoking rooms only to those of us travelling with
pets -- so it was a pleasant surprise to be given a non-smoking
room upon request. At the time of writing, we were told that all
pet-friendly rooms were located on the first floor so that pet
owners would have easy access to the outdoors via their private
patio doors. Sure enough, we were on the first floor, in a
comfortable, bright, quiet room. The management does ask that
pets be walked on the adjacent green strip/gravel road (rather
than on hotel property). A small flat-fee applies to travellers
with pets, one that we gladly paid as it was more than reasonable.
Continental breakfast was included with our stay. I made
a point of asking if we could bring breakfast to our rooms
because we didn't wish to leave the dogs unattended. We were
assured that we could simply take a tray and eat in our rooms,
no problem. While one of us stayed with the dogs, the other
went to the breakfast room and loaded up with muffins, bagels,
and coffee, then brought it back so that we could eat in the
company of our pooches.
Lucia Barron, General Manager of the Comfort Inn
Winnipeg South, remarked that she'd rather have an open pet
policy than have people attempting to sneak their pets in.
We chatted a bit about pets - she is obviously a dog lover.
During our stay, we saw a couple of other guests walking
their dogs down the hallways.
Room amenities included cable colour TV, patio doors (convenient
outdoor access for when you want to take the pooch out), a fairly
large table with chairs, iron + ironing board, free local calls,
and coffee maker.
Side note: on our previous journey through Winnipeg, on a
Sunday night, we were puzzled to see people lined up on one side
of a street called Portage Avenue. People were literally sitting
in lawn chairs by the side of the road (we saw dogs sitting next
to them, too) and traffic was heavy. We finally asked someone
what was going on; apparently Winnipeg has a "tradition"
called "Cruise Night" when those with "hot cars"
drive up and down Portage Ave, while those who like hot cars go
and watch!
