The dogs wait patiently on the deck of the cabin
at Highland Court Motel, located about 20 minutes outside

The Highland Court Motel is easily accessible on Huntsville's
Main Street by an exit off of Hwy 11 (the TransCanada). It's a
small complex that offers primarily motel units as well two
cottages in their own separate buildings. Although an older
motel, it's clean and comfortable - plus it's conveniently
close to everything you need. Just up the street is a popular
Fish and Chips restaurant that does bustling business both
for dinner and for breakfast.
This photo was taken from the cabin -- you'll see the
office straight ahead, and the motel units which are separate
from the cabin.

Our cottage included: a 2-burner hot plate, bathroom with shower,
cable TV, mini-fridge, 2 sets of utensils, tea kettle, complimentary
coffee, glasses and mugs, plates, bowls, and TV trays so that you
can enjoy dinner in front of the TV. There's also a couch.
Nick Patel, the owner, has a welcoming pet policy. He remarked,
"Lots of people call and say their pets are their family.
How can we say no?" A small fee applies, otherwise there
no hard and fast rules other than common courtesy.
About 20 to 25 minutes from the motel is the stunning
Algonquin Park. In the first week or two of October, it's
bathed in the brilliant colours of fall -- and if you've
never seen them, it alone is well worth the trip! There is
plenty of hiking in the park (most of which is dog-friendly;
consult the park for pet restrictions), and many visitors
choose to explore the area via canoe.
Huntsville the town is well worth a visit too. There's
a pretty lake and many little shops on Main Street. Just
a few minutes drive away are the towns of Dwight and
Oxtongue Lake. Apparently the fall colours season is
"high season", so try to book your accommodations
in advance to ensure you won't be disappointed.
Fall travel is a great time to enjoy a quiet vacation
with your pets; it's generally not as busy as the summer
season, and it's a nice temperature to do some hiking and
other outdoor activities with the dogs. Have a great time!
